Our mission is to ensure every child who calls St. Louis home is prepared to thrive.

Our Vision

We envision a St. Louis where every single person is able to find success in a rapidly changing world and a region that draws people from all backgrounds because of its renewed sense of possibility, growing economic opportunity, and safe, just, and peaceful communities.

By working with districts, schools, educators, parents, nonprofits, government and other community stakeholders, we will increase the percentage of children attending world-class schools in St. Louis city from 10% to over 40% by 2028 and ensure another 3,000 students are enrolled in world-class schools in targeted districts in St. Louis County.

Our Story

St. Louis civic leaders came together in June 2018, led by St. Louis natives Eric Scroggins and Marcus Robinson, to better understand how other regions with similar challenges had successfully transformed their public education systems. We spent nearly a year studying what is working in our nation’s fastest-improving systems and engaging locally with parents and teachers, as well as leaders in schools, community organizations, and businesses. Through an iterative, year-long process, the idea and design of The Opportunity Trust was born. The organization launched in July 2019 with support from local and national philanthropists and a diverse team and board uniquely equipped to pursue its mission.

Our Values

In the pursuit of better outcomes for our community, we value being forthright, resilient, optimistic, and humble. We have the courage to speak up and out while maintaining an optimistic outlook that success is possible. We are committed and willing to roll up our sleeves and pitch in, knowing our mission is more important than us.

Our Team

We are working to build a diverse team and organization with a particular focus on shared background and experiences to the most vulnerable children in our community. In addition, we aim to be inclusive in our work with each other and our partners so that we can leverage the diversity of our backgrounds and experiences to develop the best solutions for the complex challenge of systems change.
