The Opportunity Trust, in collaboration with Greater St. Louis Inc. and the Regional Business Council, hosted the inaugural St. Louis Day for Missouri Legislators this fall. More than 60 Missouri legislators and local civic and education leaders gathered in St. Louis to engage on critical issues facing the region. It was the first time these organizations collaborated to bring together legislators from both sides of the aisle in an effort to deepen relationships, sharpen understanding, and enlist support to address key regional issues head-on.

The day began with a discussion on public safety hosted by the Regional Business Council at Washington University’s Charles F. Knight Center. St. Louis City Circuit Attorney, Gabe Gore and Chief of Police Robert Tracy, led a discussion focused on plans to reduce crime and underscore the importance of public safety to both the regional and the state success.

Legislators then traveled to the Cortex Innovation District where Greater St. Louis Inc. (GSTL) hosted a second discussion on economic development. The conversation featured GSTL board chair, Andy Taylor, and focused on the 2030 Jobs Plan. 

The third and final discussion hosted by The Opportunity Trust focused on the regional plan to increase access to quality seats in public schools. Marlon Marshall, a St. Louis native, and CEO of The City Fund facilitated the conversation that included national and local philanthropists, business leaders, and legislators.
