Alexis Ulaj serves as the Associate Partner for Instructional Excellence and Equity at The Opportunity Trust. She comes to The Opportunity Trust with an exceptional track record in educational leadership, having led one of the highest-performing middle schools in the state of New Jersey in Newark. Her dedication and innovative approaches to data-driven instruction and teacher and secondary leader development have not only resulted in remarkable academic achievements but have also fostered a supportive and dynamic learning environment for both students and staff.

In her career with Uncommon Schools, Alexis distinguished herself as one of the highest-performing principal fellows across all regions. This experience equipped her with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within our educational landscape, making her an invaluable asset to our team as we strive to enhance the quality and impact of our existing schools. In her most recent role as Director at the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association, she has successfully built and led community mobilization systems to engage students, schools, families and teachers in statewide advocacy initiatives. Additionally, she has led school support initiatives across all member schools, providing technical assistance and targeted expertise to all member schools based on their highest leverage operational and instructional needs.

Alexis earned a B.A. in English, International Studies and Spanish from the University of Michigan, a Master’s in Public Policy with an emphasis on Education Policy from Rutgers University, Bloustein School and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University.
