School Board Fellowship

In partnership with Civic Impact Coalition, the School Board Fellowship (SBF) brings together a diverse coalition of aspiring school board members and education advocates, to equip them with the knowledge and a network to dramatically improve student outcomes for all kids.

SBF convenes guest speakers, including traditional district superintendents, charter school executive directors, current school board members, parent advocates, principals, teachers, political consultants, education researchers, historians, and governance scholars to shape fellows’ understanding of board governance and prepare them for their own board service.

Applications for the next cohort are open through September 11th.

What to Expect

  • Six-month cohort experience with monthly meetings
  • Speakers from diverse education settings locally and nationally
  • Build a network of like-minded public education advocates
  • Learn about the full education landscape in St. Louis and how you can support public education
  • Understand how to be an effective school board member
  • Support to join a charter school board, run for elected school board, or pursue other opportunities

Learning what it means to govern a school effectively has been eye opening. I am excited about the opportunity to make impact and clear about the real work it takes to be effective so that educators and children are supported to succeed.

  • Have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Are eager to learn from and with others
  • Have a track record of positively impacting the community
  • Can commit to 10-15 hours/month during the 6-month fellowship, including consistent attendance at sessions (because that’s the time commitment you’ll need to make when you’re on a board!)
